Stories of Botswana
Driving Question: In what ways can the art of storytelling be adapted to communicate across disciplines and for different purposes?
Content Area: Oral Storytelling, Anthropology, and Environmental Studies
Project Overview: The students familiarized themselves with the culture and history of Botswana by using a variety of sources and stimuli. After immersing themselves in the country and its people, they selected an area for further focus and development. They either explored the nature and role of traditional storytelling or conducted a research program centered on the ameliorating potential conflict between landowners and native species.
Summative: Students chose between two different products:
1. The production and performance of a story, demonstrating the student’s knowledge of both the medium and a selected aspect of the region’s anthropology.
2. The communication of scientific findings in a manner both creative and accessible to non-members of the scientific community.
