Building blocks: Internet Decentralization

Driving Question: How might we use blockchain technology to create future innovative ventures?

Content Area: Computer Science, Web Development

Project Overview: TGS students explored the potential of blockchain technology, NFTs, and cryptocurrency in a module that aimed to teach them about emerging technologies and how they are changing the world. The module provided an overview of what blockchain is, as well as an explanation of cryptocurrency and NFTs. The students learned how to create their own cryptocurrency and NFTs, and looked at the ethical implications of these technologies. The module aimed to give students a better understanding of the potential of blockchain technology and the excitement it has generated in the tech community. By the end of the module, students had a better grasp of how blockchain is being implemented in various industries and how it could shape the future of our world.

Summative product: Students designed a decentralized app, token/coin, or NFT collection based on blockchain technology. Students included the following elements:

  • Design of a graphic interface / WireFrame of how their app/idea will work (If they had coding skills they could choose to code the app)

  • A Pitch Deck for our local experts

  • A Rationale on how this app, token/coin, or NFT collection would change their chosen area of focus.

“Teaching requires going out of the comfort zone to challenge and inspire students to learn and grow.”
